Borrego Springs Adventure

Yesterday we went on a Borrego Springs adventure.  We drove out to see the "special blooming desert flowers".  Well, we didn't see very many flowers.  But the ones we did see were very nice.  And we were able to see a little pack of wild bighorn sheep which was exciting.  We had a nice walk and enjoyed the warm, beautiful weather.  It may have been a little too long of a walk for a pregnant lady (although I did see someone out there more pregnant than me) as it required a full 11 hours of sleep last night to recover.  But it was a nice day and an adventure.

It's a GIRL

And we're so happy!  And we got our first pink items already!  An adorable outfit from Alicia and a pink storage shelf from the Petersens.  And...9 tubs of baby girl clothes thanks to Rachel, Laura and all their generous friends who have passed along hand-me-downs.  So...I'd say we've adjusted pretty quickly to this girl thing.

We're looking forward to figuring out how we're going to decorate the baby's room very soon!

The Real News

The news you have all been waiting for is finally here....we're having a baby!  And it's GIRL!  Baby girl P will be joining us around July 27th!

So pretty much this will turn from a blog about our cat to a blog about a baby.  But I think they will both be pretty cute.

So far I've gone from this:

To this:

I feel so lucky that I have not had any terrible pregnancy symptoms that you hear about.  Other than the fact that I can't get over what my belly looks like everyday...I'm great!  My strangest symptom so far is that during the first trimester I didn't crave any sweets!  But, I'm over that and want sweets now pretty much all the time.  I've been having very vivid dreams which is fun and sleeping extra which is wonderful.  Adam has been very helpful in catering to my extra needs.

We've been working on the baby's room (with Noodle's help) and have gotten some furniture together.

I may have made a lengthy "Before Baby Comes" list of projects that I want to finish around the house. So Adam and his dad have been tackling these fun projects. And Daddy To Be has even done some on his own.  These are not super fun photos to post pictures of...adding insulation to the attic has been difficult to capture on film...but they are happening and keeping us busy.

We feel so lucky to have such love and support around us during this very exciting time!  Now that we're "social media" official....more updates to come!

Do you know about Takins?

The Takins are one of the less popular zoo animals who happen to be some of our favorites.  They used to live in an area at the zoo that was not a high traffic area but they were recently moved to the new Asian animal area.  This means, that all those people who come to see the pandas have no choice but to stop and admire the Takins on their way.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about Takins:
The takin (pron.: /ˈtɑːkɪn/, also called cattle chamois or gnu goat, is a goat-antelope found in the eastern Himalayas.  Mitochondrial research shows the takin are related to sheep; its similarity to the muskox is an example ofconvergent evolution. The takin is the national animal of Bhutan.

The last time we went to the zoo we were so lucky to see a one week old baby takin!  Who was just so stinkin' cute that I thought it was time you all learned about takins too.  Stop by and give them some love so we aren't the only ones who spend longer looking at them than the pandas.

Speed Boating

Adam and  his dad went on a speed boat adventure in the bay in February.  It was a beautiful day and they got to drive this tiny little boat all around the bay and have an adventure.

It was beautiful and they had a great time!

Alicia and Dave are getting married!

Our good friends Alicia and Dave are getting married in September and we are so excited for them!  The ladies went to tea at the Grand Del Mar to celebrate.  What I learned from this is that I need to learn how to make scones. Does anyone have a good recipe?  It was a wonderful and delicious day!

Noodle in a Cone

Poor Noodle had to have surgery in January to fix a hernia.  Too much weight lifting with her kitty dumbbells   Well, actually the vet thinks that when she originally was spayed, they didn't do a very good job and her new active lifestyle with us made this very apparent.

So, this meant two weeks in a less than fashionable cone.  I think it was practically harder on us than it was on her.  Okay, no it wasn't.  But it wasn't easy for any of us.

Now other than working on regrowing some belly hair, she is back to her good old self.  And looks much cuter without a cone.
