Baby Sadie Marie Petersen

It's hard to believe that four weeks has gone by since the day that Sadie arrived into our lives!  Here's the quick version of how July 30, 2013 went for us.

It all started on Sunday, July 28th.  I woke up in the night with contractions.  And I thought that for sure that this was it!  I went out to the living room to wait, thinking how nice I was being to let Adam get a little bit more sleep.  I got out my contraction timer, and turned on the TV to watch some late night infomercials.  And two hours later...the contractions stopped and sadly, I got back into bed.  When the alarm went off for Adam to get up for work, I complained and whined about wanting to have the baby and Adam decided to stay home with me just in case.

We got up and went for a long walk at a nearby park.  Nothing. I took a nap.  Nothing.  I watched TV. Nothing. I whined and complained and asked for baby to come.  Nothing.  I decided that I needed distraction and so we went to the movies to see Despicable Me 2.  I didn't get popcorn which should have been my first clue that something was different with me.  Thinking back on it, I never just "don't feel like popcorn" at the movies so I should have known.

About halfway through the movie I started having contractions.  Figuring that they were just more braxton hicks, I didn't even tell Adam until we were walking out.  And, since it was part of the plan, we went to Home Depot on our way home.  The contractions were hurting a little bit more, but I just didn't believe that it was really happening.  By the time we got home, I admitted to Adam that I thought I might really be in labor.  But I wasn't ready to sound the alarm just yet.  As I tried to eat dinner and wasn't really interested, I realized that this really was it. We were timing contractions and they were getting stronger.  I tried to distract myself more and about 8:30pm I realized that I should finish packing my hospital bag so I could still do it myself.  And as I packed all kinds of things I wouldn't use at the hospital...it really started hurting!

We were checked into the hospital and into our labor and delivery room and had the epidural by 10:30pm.  It all happened so fast that it's hard to even remember.  And at 6:10am, Sadie arrived.  7 pounds, 14 ounces and 21 inches long.  Full head of brown hair, long legs and big hands.  Just perfect.

Those first few moments were surreal to realize that we were now parents and that this little baby was going to depend on us forever to love and care for her.

We stayed in the hospital for a few days and had so many wonderful visitors who all couldn't wait to see Sadie.  Thank you to everyone who came to visit us and make us feel special!  For those of you who Sadie hasn't gotten to meet yet...we can't wait!

Here are a few photos of our time in the hospital.  Tons more photos and stories about Sadie's first few weeks to come soon!
